William Funkhouser

William (or Bill, that thing you don't want to get in the mail) is a reformed hippie from Puyallip. While in the Air Force, his hippie lifestyle caught up with him, and he was given an ultimatum, "Get sober, or you're out." He had to find new friends and build a new lifestyle, and he found it, first a little baptist church with a pastor who invested and discipled him and then with Pastor Eddy Bez at the Rock Church, a church which helped Bill discover that central to Christianity was authentic relationships with people no matter their background or struggles.
With this newfound outlook he eventually met and married his wife, Linda, they had two kids (Christiaan and Lauren), and he worked as a COBOL programmer for over forty years in the corporate world while serving faithfully with his wife and kids. Towards the end of his tenure he got his Master of Divinity, and eventually his Doctorate in Theology.
After downsizing forced him into an early retirement, he really began to reflect on his Christian journey and what were some of the things that helped him. Then he thought about how he could incorporate those things into a ministry to help others. After many evenings of prayer and discussions with Linda, they decided to act on his call to help others as a Ministry.
True Devotions Ministries was born, a ministry dedicated to creating safe places for people from all backgrounds both Christian and non-Christian to learn about the True Truth of Christianity and walk forward in it, if they so choose.
Christiaan Funkhouser
Board Member / Story Teller
Christiaan loves philosophy and theology. His favorite philosopher is Søren Kierkegaard. A former (maybe soon again) next generation pastor, Christiaan volunteers and speaks at young men's conferences on various topics, including Christianity and singleness. He's a writer, avid gamer, movie critic, sci-fi geek, and blogger. You can read some of his musings at his blog Funkhouser.io. He has he Bachelor's in Political Science where he studied Communism and Propaganda, and his Master of Divinity in Christian Education where he studied and refined his biblical knowledge and learned the importance of authenticity in ministry.
At TDMI, Christiaan serves on the board in addition to helping with marketing, branding, and other business-related things. He's excited about the new focus that TDMI is taking to journey alongside others in their search for the Truth.
Michael Steffensen
Board Member
Michael has been a Georgia native all his life. He grew up and served in both the Lutheran and Methodist tradition before arriving at his current Baptist church where he continues serving today. He's worked in the corporate world for 22 years (some of those working with William) before going to a Christian non-profit in 2018. His wife Brandy is in marketing communication and a Christian Fiction author who also serves in a national Christian Writers Organization!
Michael is seen the power of God's grace and wisdom throughout his own walk, and is excited to see that in the work that TDMI is doing as he continues serving on the board helping the ministry grow, serving others, and collaborating with partners in ministry to fulfill God's purpose for each person!
